Amanda began researching for a blog about deaf or hard-of-hearing dental professionals and was surprised to find very few articles on the topic. Through her searches, she realized how few deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals are working in the dental field—less than 1% of dental professionals.
Challenges in this field include communication difficulties due to masks, background dental noises, and a lack of deaf awareness. Amanda’s goal is to increase accessibility to oral health care regardless of circumstances.
That Deaf RDH provides scholarships to any deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals attending accredited dental hygiene schools to help cover supplemental costs such as uniforms, scrubs, loupes, instruments, and exam fees. All proceeds go towards the non-profit's mission and help deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals pursue their dental education.
